The THA’s Division of Health & Wellness has responded to a video which shows chicken being disposed of at a landfill site inTobago.

The Division’s Public Health Services Department says an exercise was conducted at a warehouse on the compound of the Tobago Agribusiness Development Company on February 2nd to remove and properly dispose of meat stored on-site by other companies, that had surpassed the expiry date.

It says the exercise was conducted in keeping with required food safety standards.

The Division also insists that despite suggestions heard in the video, all precautions were taken to ensure the items were properly and securely disposed of, so that no one could access these items for resale.

It is reminding the public that all consumables (cooked or raw) should only be purchased from known sources, suppliers and vendors, who use safe food practices.
