Texas woman awarded $1.2 billion in revenge porn case

A Texas woman has been awarded $1.2bn after a jury ruled that she was the victim of revenge porn.

According to BBC News, the woman filed a harassment lawsuit against her former boyfriend in 2022.

The woman said she shared the intimate photos with the defendant during their relationship.

After they broke up in 2021, he allegedly posted the photos on social media and adult websites without her consent, and also sent links of the photos to her friends and family through a publicly accessible Dropbox folder.

Identified only by the initials DL in court documents, she accused the man of posting the intimate pictures to “publicly shame” her.

Her lawyers say the settlement is a win for victims of “image-based sexual abuse” and hope the verdict sends a message of deterrence.
