Tropical Depression Thirteen has formed in the far eastern tropical Atlantic.

Thirteen is carrying maximum sustained winds near 55 km/h, with gradual strengthening is forecast.

The National Hurricane Centre says it could become a tropical storm by tonight and a hurricane by this weekend.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Kirk continues to strengthen in the Atlantic.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 140 km/h, and Kirk is expected to become a major hurricane tomorrow.

Due to its current position, there are no watches or warnings in place.

However, the NHC says swells generated by Kirk are beginning to spread outward and could impact portions of Leeward Islands and Bermuda by this weekend.
