SWMCOL says while it has contained a fire at the Beetham Landfill, grey smoke is still being generated.

Two fires were observed at the site around 11:30pm yesterday.

The fire in the eastern area has been extinguished, while SWMCOL’s Emergency Management Team and contractors are actively engaged in smothering the second fire.

It adds that this second fire has the potential to affect the air quality of Port of Spain and its environs.

According to the EMA’s AQI Dashboard, air quality in Port of Spain is currently listed as “Orange” or “Sensitive Groups”.
