St Vincent and the Grenadines has passed law declaring May 21st a public holiday in honour of the Spiritual Baptist faith.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said SVG becomes the second country in the world to have such a holiday, after Trinidad and Tobago.

The law was passed in Parliament with unanimous support.

According to iWitness News St Vincent, PM Gonsalves said, “This bill is very brief but stuffed with significance.”

Concurring, Senator Israel Bruce, a Spiritual Baptist, said the law was the “most significant” he had debated since becoming a lawmaker in 2019.
