Two men have appeared in court charged with extortion.
39-year-old Richard Tinto of Santa Cruz was granted $400,000 bail for five counts of Demanding Money by Menace, and Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Meanwhile, 33-year-old Jeffrey Hernandez of Maracas, St Joseph was charged with two counts of Demanding Money by Menace and granted $200,000 bail.
Also appearing in court was 26-year-old Adave Maraj of Valsayn, who was charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and granted $8,000 bail.
All three were arrested on August 28th 2024.
The TTPS says they were allegedly involved in extorting over $200,000 from multiple victims in North Central and Central Trinidad.
Senior Superintendent Richard Smith has since urged those affected by extortion to report the incidents, assuring that the police will take the necessary measures to bring the perpetrators to justice.
