Supply issues following production cutback at Desal Plant

A cutback in production at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant has led to water supply issues in parts of Central and South West Trinidad.

According to WASA, the cutback is due to raw water quality issues due to an algae build up at the intake area for the Plant.

As such, DESALCOTT’s supply to the Authority has been reduced from 40 million gallons of water per day to 30 mgd, leading to low pressures, or in some instances no supply to some areas.

It adds that the normal daily or scheduled supply to the following areas may be affected:

Caroni, Warrenville, Cunupia, Chaguanas, Caparo, Chase Village, Couva, Point Lisas, California, Claxton Bay, Plaisance Park, Pointe a Pierre, City of San Fernando, Vistabella, Marabella, Gasparillo, South West Union Hall, Pleasantville, Palmiste, Phillipine, Duncan Village, Esperance, Gulf View, Bel Air, La Romain, South Oropouche, Otaheite, Rousillac, Aripero, parts of La Brea, Avocat, Fyzabad, parts of Siparia including De Gannes Village and Quarry Village, San Francique, Debe, Syne Village, Lowkie Trace, Sunrees Road, Mora Dam Road.

WASA says it is continuing to liaise with DESALCOTT regarding the situation and will provide further updates.
