The steelpan is set to replace Columbus’ three ships on Trinidad and Tobago’s Coat of Arms.
This was announced by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley announced this evening, during the PNM’s special convention at NAPA.
Dr Rowley says the change is expected to be finalised before Republic Day on September 24th 2024.
There will also be a six-month transition period in order to facilitate changes to stationery and official materials.
Regarding the change, Dr Rowley said it should signal that T&T is on its way to removing “colonial vestiges” as he also expressed hope that the Privy Council would also eventually be removed as this country’s final court of appeal.
