Julien Alfred made history as St Lucia’s first Olympic medalist, as she stormed to gold in the women’s 100m event today.
Held at the Stade de France, Alfred clocked a national record 10.72 seconds.
In second place was American world champion Sha’Carri Richardson who registered 10.87.
The bronze went to another American, Melissa Jefferson, who had a time of 10.92.
Speaking after the race, Alfred said “I’m thinking of God [and] my dad, who didn’t get to see me. He passed away in 2013. Dad, this is for you. I miss you. I did it for him, I did it for my coach and God.”
