St. Augustine MP pleads for drainage fix

Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, Ms. Khadijah Ameen is appealing to the Minister of Works and Transport, Senator Rohan Sinanan to address the flooding issues surrounding the Blackman Ravine in Curepe.

The call comes after parts of the constituency including Knowles Street, Eccles Trace, Abdul Lane, Blackman Lane and other streets within vicinity face severe flooding once again. According to MP Ameen, the source of the flooding is the Blackman Ravine which has always been a flood threat, however recent works to the Kay Donna overpass further exacerbated the issue resulting in the intense flooding to the lower Curepe area.

The St. Augustine MP Is also calling for the speedy completion of the Macoya drain along the Priority Bus Route which commenced early this year. The rainy season has arrived and work which was scheduled to be completed some time ago is still ongoing, leading to residents being fearful now that flooding has resumed.

MP Ameen believes that through adequate planning and prevention measures, the Government can mitigate the flooding that the constituents of St. Augustine frequently endure.
