Residents of Spring Village in St Augustine want authorities to cut off access to the Highway via their community.
The issue was raised by a resident during a community meeting with police and other representatives last night.
The area has fallen victim to the criminal element in recent weeks, including robberies and one instance in which a gang of about eight persons was seen roaming the streets in the early hours of the morning.
One resident believes points allowing vehicular access to the Highway have made it easier for criminals and called for barricades to be installed.
It was suggested that the Works Ministry and local representatives be lobbied with that request.
There were also questions regarding the use of force when defending against perpetrators in a home invasion.
Sgt Denoon of the St Joseph Police Station assured that residents should not be afraid of defending their home – within their home – from invaders/attackers.
