The Siparia Borough Corporation says it is monitoring locust swarms in the area.

The swarms were first reported in Siparia late last week, and videos from yesterday showed thousands of insects still present in some communities.

Newly-appointed Mayor Dinesh Sankersingh told 103.1FM News that resources are being mobilized to assist those who may be affected.

He said the Corporation is also working with the Agriculture and Health Ministries on the matter.
