Singer Shiva Lakhan will receive $120,000 from the State for a police raid at his family’s home in May 2020.
The incident took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Lakhan claiming a breach of his constitutional right to enjoyment of property.
According to a report by the Trinidad Express, he also maintains that the officers were aggressive, despite him complying with their instructions.
On Tuesday, Justice Margaret Mohammed signed off on a consent order agreed upon by his attorneys and those for the State.
The AG’s Office has agreed to pay $75,000 in compensatory damages and $45,000 in vindicatory damages.
The State will also bear his legal costs.
