Separate investigations underway after 2 shot dead in Courts car park

Investigations are underway after two persons were shot dead yesterday at the Courts Megastore compound in San Juan.

According to Newsday, the shooter was an off-duty police officer, while the deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Simeon Lessey and his sister 31-year-old Sinaaya Lessey.

There are claims that the incident in the car park was the result of an attempted robbery, but relatives of the siblings are denying this.

They instead claim that the two were there to conduct a transaction.

The incident is now reportedly being investigated by the TTPS, the Police Complaints Authority and the TTPS’ Professional Standards Bureau.

Three others were also treated for injuries.

Meanwhile, Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd has since issued a statement emphasizing that its car parks are for customers and should not be used for any private financial/business transactions.

It adds that the incident will be taken seriously by its security team.

The company says all employees have since been directed to contact its Employee Assistance Programme to facilitate counselling services following the traumatic occurrence.
