A labourer has been arrested and is expected to appear before a magistrate this week, charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
According to a police report, on July 14th, officers of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) received information that led them to SS
Erin Road, Santa Flora in the vicinity of the Fyzabad Field Road.
The officers saw a vehicle matching the description and attempted to intercept the driver. The driver exited the vehicle with a package and
began running away from the officers. The officers gave chase and quickly apprehended the suspect. The officers conducted a search and discovered a camouflage and metal gun fitted with a trigger and a firing selector.
Checks revealed that the man is not the holder of a Firearms Users Licence. The weapon was secured and the labourer, 28, of Richardson Trace,
Fyzabad was arrested.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Remy, Supt Theodore-Persad, ASP Nanan, ASP Simon, Insp Prescott, and supervised by Sgts Rollocks,
and Gosine, Cpl. (Ag.) Vincent and included officers of the SWDTF, Penal and Siparia Criminal Investigations Department, Traffic Unit, Canine
and the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. Enquiries are ongoing by PC Suruj of the SWDTF.
Charges are expected to be laid soon.
