Persons are being urged to protect themselves, as readings across the country show “Unhealthy” to “Moderate” air quality levels.
The EMA’s Air Quality Index shows Red or “Unhealthy” in Point Lisas and San Fernando as at 10am today.
Readings in Port of Spain meanwhile were Orange or “Moderate”.
The EMA says the readings are due to Saharan dust, with particulate matter ranging in levels from 164 – 177.
Everyone – particularly sensitive groups, older adults, children and individuals with heart or lung disease, respiratory ailments and allergies – are strongly advised to avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
