With a Hot Spell Watch in place for the next few days, persons are being advised to take the necessary measures to protect themselves.
Yesterday the Met Service warned that daily maximum temperatures will reach or exceed 34°C in Trinidad, and 33°C in Tobago.
Advice from the Health Ministry warns that very hot temperatures can be dangerous.
Persons are advised to:
- Stay cool by drinking lots of water and to avoid drinks with caffeine and alcohol.
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light coloured clothing.
- Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest times of the day.
- Take frequent breaks while working outdoors.
- During hot weather, remember to check on family, friends and neighbours who do not have air conditioning.
- Use the night air to cool your home by opening all windows during the night and early in the morning.
- During the day, close windows and shutters which are facing the sun.
Persons should also avoid going outdoors during the hottest time of the day, which is 10am to 4pm.
