Rutherford stars in final-ball BBL thriller

West Indian Sherfane Rutherford put in a Player of the Match performance to help the Sydney Thunder to a last-ball four-wicket win over Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League in Australia.

Rutherford made 39 not out from 19 balls inclusive of one six and five fours – his fifth four came on the final ball of the chase of 178 with three runs needed to win.

Facing up against Andrew Tye, Rutherford pulled off the heist with ESPNcricinfo calling the action as follows:

“Tye to Rutherford, FOUR runs

Rutherford has done it here at the Perth Stadium! Full and overpitched on the leg stump, moves away early to make room and clears the front foot, waits for the delivery and swings his bat at it with full force, thick inside edge off the bat and finds the gap between short fine leg and deep backward square!”

Earlier, Chris Green took 3/20 in four overs as Perth were restricted to 177/4 in 20 overs.

SCORES
