Rivulet Road protest: MP wants probe by PM, Commissioner of State Lands

The Prime Minister and Commissioner of State Lands are being urged to probe a matter which led to a protest along Rivulet Road today.

103.1FM News was told by Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation Chairman Ryan Rampersad that, for the past few years, residents have been using a piece of land for community activities.

However, a company claiming ownership recently began to make use of the land, prompting Mr Rampersad to have the Corporation conduct enquiries to determine the status of the land.

In a release this afternoon, Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh claimed that the land is not private, and it was vested in Caroni (1975) Limited and used as a community space.

He added that residents were shown a document purporting to give the company the right to seize the land, but it could not be verified.

Mr Indarsingh believes the PM and Commissioner of State Lands must investigate the issue and confirm whether the land has been allocated for use by a private entity.
