Protest at Lachoos Road for St Dominic’s school

UPDATE: Penal/Debe Regional Corporation Chairman Gowtam Maharaj has committed to communicating with the Education Ministry regarding the St Dominic’s Penal RC Primary School.

A protest took place at Lachoos Road this morning as calls continued to be made for the school to be rebuilt after it was damaged in a 2017 earthquake.

Since 2017, students have been housed in a parish hall and a community centre, and according to Mr Maharaj, the community centre is deteriorating.

He adds that the rebuilding of the school has previously been raised by the area’s councillor via writing and at public forums.

The recently elected Chairman says he will now be writing to the Ministry himself to express concerns and lobby the situation.

Today’s action follows a protest at the school yesterday.
