Prison Officer charged with multiple offences

A Prison Officer attached to the Arouca Maximum Security Prison has been charged with multiple serious offences, including drug trafficking.

On May 20th 2025, officers received a report that a 28-year-old Prison Officer was allegedly in possession of prohibited items while on duty.

The suspect was arrested following preliminary inquiries and later released pending further investigations.

He was re-arrested outside the prison on June 11th, however a search at his residence found no illegal items.

Two days later after further interviews, several charges were laid including

  • Misbehavior in Public Office – for trafficking a dangerous drug (cocaine) into the prison in exchange for payment.
  • Misbehavior in Public Office – for bringing prohibited items into the prison, including multiple cellular phones, sim cards, chargers, headsets, and USB cables.
  • Trafficking in a Dangerous Drug – specifically cocaine, into the Arouca Maximum Security Prison.

He was due to appear before the Arima Masters Court today.
