Prison officer caught with prohibited item at Golden Grove Prison

A prison officer has been arrested and charged after being caught with prohibited items at the Golden Grove Prison.

The Prison Service says shortly after noon on July 24th the officer was subjected to a routine search as he reported for duty.

In his satchel, they found a parcel containing a quantity of plant-like material.

The officer, who has just under two years of service, was expected to appear before a Magistrate today.

Acting Prisons Commissioner Deopersad Ramoutar has since praised the officers who he said are not distracted by ‘batch’ or ‘colleague’, but are loyal to the organization and committed to ridding it of errant officers.
