The United States and China have agreed on a framework to implement their trade truce after two days of trade talks to reduce trade tensions and ease export restrictions.
In an all-caps social media post, President Donald Trump said a “deal” with China has been completed.
In the latest agreement, China will supply magnets and rare earth minerals while the U.S. will allow Chinese students in its colleges and universities.
A White House official said the agreement allows the U.S. to charge a 55% tariff on imported Chinese goods while China would charge a 10% tariff on U.S. imports.
China currently has a monopoly on rare earths, without which cars, jet engines, contrast dye used in MRI machines and some cancer drugs cannot be manufactured.
