Political analyst Dr Bishnu Ragoonath is not concerned by the lack of an economics expert on the Independent Senate bench.

Yesterday, four new Independent Senators were sworn in during the ceremonial opening of the new Parliamentary term.

The current group of nine Independents does not have someone with a background in economics, however Dr Ragoonath noted that it is not a requirement for the bench.

He reminded that the President has the authority to select Independent Senators.

The four new Senators are Professor Gerard Hutchinson, Sunity Maharaj, Dr. Sharda Patasar, and Helon Francis.
