With a 21% increase in road traffic deaths in 2024, police are urging motorists to exercise more caution on the nation’s roads.
An accident yesterday morning in Couva, which claimed two lives, took the number of road traffic deaths to 115 for the year, compared to 95 for the same period last year.
Senior Superintendent of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Garvin Simon, says preventable incidents continue to burden society with unnecessary loss of life.
He adds that, while police will continue its efforts, road users must do their part by obeying speed limits, wearing seatbelts and ensuring a sober and alert driver is behind the wheel.
