Police seize $1.5m, quarantine $10m in pharmaceuticals

Police have seized $1.5 million in pharmaceuticals and quarantined another $10 million worth.

The TTPS says it received reports of unregistered and expired drugs being sold at pharmacies across T&T.

Following investigations, officers went to a warehouse at Tissue Drive in the Trincity Industrial Estate on Friday.

They were met by a director of a company and the warehouse manager before conducting an inspection of the location.

Food and Drug inspectors ordered that the pharmaceutical section of the warehouse be placed under quarantine due to a lack of a Pharmaceutical Wholesale Licence and Licensed Pharmacist for the site.

Furthermore, over 14,000 pharmaceutical items were seized as they were unregistered and not allowed to be sold in T&T.

Police say they will continue to investigate reports to identify the origin of unregistered pharmaceuticals entering the country.
