Police search for kidnappers after Maraval incident

A woman and her daughter are now assisting police with the investigation into a kidnapping that occurred yesterday, Friday 8th September 2023. According to police reports, around 3 am yesterday, a 46-year-old woman and her daughter, 19, were asleep at their Maraval residence, when they were awakened by assailants who entered their dwelling house and demanded money. Both victims were blindfolded, and the assailants then ransacked the premises, taking an undisclosed number of items.

Subsequently, both victims were taken against their will and placed in two of the family’s vehicles. The assailants then drove out of the premises and the victims were taken to an unknown location. Co-workers of the mother visited the premises when calls to her phone were unanswered.

When they discovered the said premises ransacked and their colleague along with the vehicles missing, they called the police. Officers of the Maraval Police Station visited the scene after receiving the report of a Housebreaking, where they made preliminary observations.

Police received information that communication was made with a relative of one of the missing persons who is currently abroad, where a demand was made for a sum of US currency. Upon receipt of this new development, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately engaged officers of the Western Division. A party of officers investigated, attained pertinent information and credible leads were being actively pursued, the victims were placed in an unknown vehicle and dropped off along Lady Young Road, Morvant.

Officers received information around 7:45 pm that day and proceeded to the location where both victims were recovered and conveyed to the St Clair Medical Health Facility. The victims have since been re-united with family members and are in good health.

The three vehicles which were taken from the residence remain outstanding. The incident is still engaging the attention of the police as investigations into the matter are being conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and officers of the Western Division.
