Police have officially commented on the arrest of Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher.
At a media briefing this morning, DCP Suzette Martin said the service is aware that the arrest has raised concerns in the public.
She added that there is an active investigation and the TTPS is working closely with the DPP on the matter.
DCP Martin noted that the arrest does not affect the day-to-day operations of the police service which is functioning without disruption.
Legal Officer Corporal Zaheer Ali stated that the arrest relates to an investigation into the unlawful firearm procurement, which steps into the realm of Misbehaviour in Public Office.
Police also did not reveal where Mrs Harewood-Christopher is being detained but noted that all her rights are being observed.
