A 41-year-old police officer has appeared in court on multiple charges stemming from three separate matters.
Kurt Sorzano appeared in the Sangre Grande Magistrate’s Court charged with common assault, discharging a firearm within 40 metres of a road, transferring a firearm and transferring ammunition.
On the night of February 25th 2023, he reportedly fired a gun while on Manzanilla Beach with a woman, who was also allegedly made to handle the weapon.
He was given $375,000 bail, with the next hearing scheduled for August 3rd.
Sorzano also appeared at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, rape and false imprisonment.
These stem from an incident on February 4th in which a woman was physically assaulted, forced to return to the home of the accused after attempting to leave and then forced to have sex against her will.
He was granted $115,000 bail, with the matter adjourned to September 22nd.
Sorzano was also granted $115,000 bail when he appeared a second time before Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes charged with common assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
On January 1st 2021, the accused allegedly pointed a gun at a woman and threatened to kill her when she arrived to his home late after being invited.
Also June 17th 2023, the woman and man were seated in his vehicle outside her home, when they got into an argument, during which time he allegedly choked her until she blacked out.
He also slapped her across her face and allegedly threatened to kill her if he saw her with any other men.
The matter was also adjourned to 22nd September 2023.
