PNM MPs have been mum on who will take over the reins following Dr Keith Rowley’s retirement announcement last Friday.
The question was posed by the media to MPs who exited day one of a parliamentary retreat in Tobago yesterday.
Among those to speak was San Fernando West MP Faris Al Rawi who said while he understands the public’s interest in the matter, the PNM has a process it will follow.
The retreat continues today.
Meanwhile, a UNC MP says the move to retire by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is a step in the right direction.
Naparima MP Rodney Charles says Dr Rowley must now focus on engineering a leadership transition that puts national interest above partisan politics.
He also believes the decision by the PNM Leader allows a chance for the advocacy of political reform.
