PM warns UWI admin: “Do not test me!”

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has threatened to take control of the UWI South Campus.

The warning came during today’s post cabinet briefing and on the heels of an announcement as to how the facility would be used.

UWI recently stated that it will house the newly launched Global School of Medicine to serve primarily international students pursuing the Doctor of Medicine programme.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar said the campus was meant to serve students in south Trinidad, who often faced traffic when commuting or high rents in St Augustine.

She insisted that it “will house what the Government says it will house” and serve the purpose for which it was built.

The PM also criticized the University’s failure to use the campus over the past 10 years and questioned the August 2025 opening date, saying the facility was “a total horror story” when visited recently by Dr Roodal Moonilal.
