Point Fortin Highway Project has been referred to Parliament’s Joint Select Committee on Land and Physical Infrastructure.
During today’s sitting of the Lower House, Prime Minister Dr Rowley delivered a statement questioning the awarding of the contract to Brazilian company OAS by the People’s Partnership Government.
He also pointed to changes to the scope of works, the decision to pay OAS via cash transfers, and the move to retain the company’s services despite it being considered bankrupt in 2015.
Dr Rowley said “a paper entitled “The Saga of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin Project: From 2010 t0 2023 – An account of the Development and Execution of the Largest Infrastructure Development Project Implemented in Trinidad and Tobago” has been laid in this House and referred to the Joint Select Committee on Land and Physical Infrastructure for urgent detailed examination.”
Following the PM’s statement, Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal contended that shortly before the People’s Partnership took office, the then PNM Government identified OAS as the preferred bidder for the job.
Dr Rowley responded by telling Dr Moonilal to “tell that to the committee of the Parliament.”
