PM wants citizens to have hope for Dragon Gas deal

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is calling for the population to have hope for the Dragon Gas deal.

There have been concerns over the future of the deal, after US State Secretary Marco Rubio said they intended to end oil and gas licences approved under the Biden Administration for foreign companies in Venezuela.

Dr Rowley underscored its importance to T&T, saying revenue streams generated by Government deals and projects are necessary to maintain the ability of the public purse to facilitate the country’s needs.

He added that getting Venezuela to agree to a gas deal is something of notable significance, as natural gas within our borders has been depleted.

Dr Rowley said T&T should aim to become self sufficient in funding its projects, and as such, Government has been focused on negotiating and securing revenue streams to maintain the country’s bills.

The Prime Minister was speaking this morning during a ceremony to mark the completion of construction for the new Central Block at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
