Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has called time on his tenure as an MP and Prime Minister.
The announcement came this afternoon during a media briefing held in Tobago.
Dr Rowley said he intends to resign before the end of his legal term of office.
At the start of the conference, Dr Rowley also sought to clear up speculation regarding his presence at an event on Sunday, which is also the day his brother passed away.
Dr Rowley said he was hosting a Christmas party at the Prime Minister’s Tobago residence when he got word of his brother’s death.
He went on to state that at 2:30am on Monday December 30th 2024, President Christine Kangaloo was awakened to sign off on the declaration for the State of Emergency.
Regarding the SoE, Dr Rowley said he was hoping for a significant reduction in gun violence and called on persons to support the police.
However he refused to comment on the performance of Top Cop Erla Christopher, insisting that Government has to work with the person appointed by the Police Service Commission.
