PM: Gov’t/Opposition crime talks to come after budget debates

Crime talks between government and the Opposition will take place after the 2023/24 budget debates are completed.

This is the time-frame given by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley who says he has received a seven-page document from UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

In a Facebook post to the Office of the Prime Minister, he says government will add to the suggested issues raised by the Opposition.

Once this is done, he notes, there will be an agenda of work for the suggested eight-person committee – the government team will be named in the coming days.

Dr Rowley says, between now and the day of the meeting, there could be a further exchange of documents between the parties.

The 2024 budget will be presented in Parliament on October 2nd, 2023.
