Nearly 500 persons have so far signed an online petition calling for the release of Canadian YouTuber Chris Must List from police custody in Trinidad.
Christopher Hughes is now officially facing a sedition charge.
Police said he allegedly posted videos featuring individuals professing to be gang members, advocating criminal activities, and using threatening language.
And yesterday, a message on his YouTube page from his family called on persons in Trinidad to “protest and come together to draw attention to the front of the station to release Chris Must List”
They posted a link to the petition on change.org on Thursday.
All video material posted from his Trinidad visit have been removed from his social media pages.
He is expected in court on June 3rd to answer the charge of publishing a statement with seditious intention.
FRIDAY UPDATE
The full statement on his YouTube page posted on Friday afternoon:
“Hello everyone,
An update from Chris’ Family:
We are currently working around the clock with the authorities and global affairs in Canada and Trinidad.
We appreciate all of your support and outreach – at this time, there will be no back and forth messages to provide further detail/responses as we are primarily focusing our energy on the matter at hand but we are hard at work to ensure progress.
We kindly ask refraining contacting the embassy and global affairs, to allow us to continue our progress without interruption to the team assisting us at this time and not to interrupt or interfere in the process.
We thank you for your kind words and understanding. Our family and the people we are working with closely, require privacy at this time and need to time to put our efforts and focus into getting Chris out safely.
Thank you.”
