Petition started for Chaguaramas Military Museum

A petition has been started on Change.org to save the Chaguaramas Military Museum.

The compound was recently seized by the Chaguaramas Development Authority, which says there were failed attempts over the years to regularize the Museum’s occupation of the land.

The petition claims that demolition is on the cards, and emphasized that losing it “would mean erasing stories, memories, and knowledge that should be preserved, not destroyed.”

The petition has been shared on the Museum’s Facebook page and has over 120 signatures as at 5pm today.

Meanwhile, NTA Leader Gary Griffith is calling on sevearal authorities to intervene and help save the Museum.

They include Diego Martin West MP Dr Keith Rowley, the Tourism Minister, the National Security Minister, the T&T Defence Force, the National Trust, and the T&T Defence Force Veterans Association.

Mr Griffith says there must be immediate dialogue with all stakeholders to find a viable solution that safeguards the artefacts without reckless displacement.

He adds that if relocation is deemed necessary in the end, this must be done with expert oversight and proper historical preservation techniques.
