Pennelope Beckles-Robinson sworn-in as Opposition Leader

Pennelope Beckles-Robinson has been sworn-in as Opposition Leader.

Mrs Beckles-Robinson received her instrument of appointment during a ceremony at President’s House this afternoon.

Speaking afterward, she vowed to serve the people of T&T, with the PNM bench to adopt a standard higher than previously existed.

She insisted that “opposition doesn’t mean obstruction”, adding that democracy flourishes not through divisiveness, but through robust debate, shared purpose and mutual respect.

Mrs Beckles-Robinson also reflected on her journey as a politician, saying she knew what is to be sidelined, silenced and sometimes rejected, but still stayed the course with resilience and “God’s grace”.

Mrs Beckles-Robinson is the first female Opposition Leader from the PNM.
