Pedestrian fatally struck along CRH in Aranguez

A man was fatally struck by a vehicle this morning along the highway in Aranguez.

Police say around 8:35am, the pedestrian was attempting to cross from south to north in the vicinity of the Aranguez Overpass.

He was struck by a black Audi travelling along the westbound lane and sustained fatal injuries.

Barataria police are continuing investigations to ascertain a name and address for the deceased.

The road fatality count for 2024 now stands at 72 when compared to 64 for the same period last year.

Pedestrians account for 32 of the road deaths.

TTPS Road Safety Project Coordinator Sergeant Brent Batson says, “Unfortunately, high risk highway crossings by pedestrians continue to be a major contributor to road risk in 2024 causing serious danger to not only pedestrians but drivers as well.”
