Paria CoE to convene one final time next week

The Commission of Enquiry into the Paria Diving Tragedy will convene for one final time next week.

In a statement issued today, the Commission said the virtual sitting will take place on Wednesday November 29th 2023.

It will begin at 2pm and is not expected to last more than an hour.

The Commission adds that counsel are not required to attend, but can, if they wish.

Members of the public wanting to attend are asked to contact the Commission’s Secretariat on or before 4pm on Monday November 27th 2023.

The report by the Commission was delayed several times this year: Chairman Jerome Lynch K.C. first pushed an Easter deadline to August, and later pushed the August deadline to November 30th 2023.

He explained the decision, saying it was to give those named in the report a chance to respond.

Rishi Nagassar, Kazim Ali Jr, Fyzal Kurban, and Yusuf Henry died after being sucked into a Paria pipeline during maintenance work on February 25th 2022.

Another diver, Christopher Boodram, survived after crawling out of the pipeline.
