The report by the Commission of Enquiry into the Paria Diving Tragedy will be handed over to the President tomorrow morning.
This announcement was made today by Chairman, Jerome Lynch K.C. during the Commission’s final sitting.
During this time, he expressed confidence that the report should and would “see the light of day”.
Regarding the report itself, Mr Lynch said it was “honest”.
The Chairman also shared a very blunt observation from the Enquiry, with regard to accountability.
Mr Lynch also lamented what he believes has been a lack of support, financially and otherwise, for the families of the divers.
said the Enquiry was done at a cost of about $15.5 million.
He also apologized for the delays in producing the report and shot down speculation of interference in the Enquiry.
Earlier this year, an Easter deadline was pushed to August, while the August deadline was later pushed to November 30th.
Seated next to fellow Commissioner Gregory Wilson, Mr Lynch also read out from a letter that will be sent to President Christine Kangaloo along with the report.
In it, he praised Christopher Boodram, the only diver to survive the incident on February 25th 2022.
Rishi Nagassar, Kazim Ali Jr, Fyzal Kurban, and Yusuf Henry died after being sucked into a Paria pipeline during maintenance work on February 25th 2022.
