2024 was a year in which the steelpan soared to unprecedented heights, according to Pan Trinbago.
In a statement for the New Year, the organization says the past year saw the legal recognition of the steelpan as T&T’s National Musical Instrument, through the National Musical Instrument Act.
It also saw the first anniversary of World Steelpan Day and the World Steelpan Festival.
During the festival, it says, a legal achievement was revealed – approval of the Geographical Indication (GI) status for the Steelpan, a type of intellectual property that brands instruments and accessories that were made in T&T as being authentic and legitimate steelpan supplies.
Pan Trinbago says in 2025 it will focus on a strategic approach to innovation, sustainability, and cultural diplomacy.
