The OWTU has accused the Energy and Labour Ministers, as well as OSHA, of failing workers, including Pete Phillip.
Speaking to reporters this morning, Union Leader Ancel Roget said it has been 43 days since Rig 110 collapsed – Phillip has been unaccounted for since.
Mr Roget told reporters not enough was done by those in authority to ensure a safe working environment.
With regard to Well Services, which operates Rig 110, he said the only update is that it is awaiting equipment to continue recovery operations.
Mr. Roget also revealed that the union is undertaking a probe of its own.
Meanwhile, Elvis Phillip, the victim’s brother, has called for someone to be held accountable for the incident.
Mr. Phillip and Mr. Roget were both speaking at a gathering outside the Well Services Ltd office in South Oropouche.
The company has since responded with a statement in which it reiterated the need to stabilize the rig before continuing with salvage and recovery efforts.
It also reminds that it has partnered with an international company to ensure the highest standards of safety for all involved.
According to Well Services, this company has conducted an on site assessment in Trinidad, however the statement did not include a timeline for the operation.
