Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles-Robinson is recommending that Government holds public consultations before moving forward with its “Stand Your Ground” law.
During a media conference at the Opposition Leader’s Office this morning, Mrs Beckles-Robinson referenced Florida’s stand your ground law, which the Government said will be used as its model.
She outlined an Oxford University study which shows an increase in homicides in the US state despite that law and urged the government to be cautious as it moves forward.
Mrs Beckles-Robinson said the Opposition is willing to collaborate once the Government presents “good legislation”, but emphasized the need for consultation and clarity on the details.
