Opposition Leader: The working people can change oppressive economic systems

The Opposition Leader believes Labour Day 2024 has met T&T in considerable social and economic turmoil.

Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in her message to the nation, referenced the closure of the Petrotrin refinery and other State entities, as well as retrenchments under the PNM.

She is promising, that if her party returns to government, it will revise the Industrial Relations Act and overhaul the Retrenchment and Severance Benefits Act.

She noted the Labour Day is a reminder that the ordinary working man and woman can change oppressive political and economic systems.

Meanwhile, Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh says the labour movement must today reflect on the words of their chant, “We shall overcome someday.”

He notes that these words are a call to action to prevail over the criminal impact on business, the increase in the prices of food and transport and the state of T&T’s economy.
