Opposition Leader extends best wishes for Maha Shivratri

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended best wishes to the Hindu community as it observes Maha Shivratri.

She says Shivratri is a night of rebirth, when persons reflect on their existences, identifying those aspects of their lives that require renewal.

She adds that the symbolism of this event sends an important message to all people that devotion and spirituality are vital components of a progressive society, and that “The personal reflection that forms such an intrinsic part of the observance of Maha Shivratri, the commitment of devotees to abandon negative influences and commit to a better life, the hope it offers for rebirth into a place of positivity, undoubtedly applies to not only the Hindu community but our country as a whole.”

Mrs Persad-Bissessar also believes that T&T is truly blessed as its diverse peoples co-exist peacefully and are free to celebrate all their festivals.

Meanwhile, given current concerns about crime, she is calling on the Police Service to increase patrols in the vicinity of temples, to ensure that devotees are safe to engage in their religious observances.
