Operations at the Piarco Airport have resumed after a warehouse fire at the South Terminal caused a temporary shutdown of the runway this morning.
Around dawn, smoke was seen coming from the Amerijet warehouse, where the fire originated.
Fortunately, the blaze was brought under control quickly by the Piarco Fire Station, supported by units from the Arima Fire Station.
The incident led to the diversion of several planes that were due to land as well as a delay in take off for others.
It is still not clear at this time what caused the fire, or the extent of the damages.
Despite the resumption of operations, passengers are urged to liaise with their respective airlines for the latest flight information, as there may still be some delays due to the earlier interruption.
