One man was fatally wounded and another injured during separate police-involved shooting incidents yesterday.
The incident involving the fatality occurred around 2:30am in the Tarouba, after officers observed a vehicle being driven by an individual wearing a mask.
The vehicle was pursued and stopped near the Marabella roundabout, where the man allegedly pointed an object resembling a firearm at the officers and a loud explosion was heard.
The vehicle then sped off and was subsequently intercepted at Battoo Avenue Recreation Ground, where several more shots were allegedly fired.
Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect who later died at hospital.
He has been identified as 61-year-old Wilfred Baptiste.
Meanwhile around 2:10am, police stopped a van carrying bulky items along the Eastern Main Road in Sangre Chiquito.
Two of the vehicle’s occupants were held while one jumped out and ran off into a swampy area, where he allegedly opened fire at the officers who fired back.
The suspect was subsequently held and taken to hospital for treatment.
The van was found to be carrying a power generator and other tools, while attempts to locate the firearm proved futile.
