Police Commissioner Erla Christopher says the TTPS is resolute in its commitment to rid the Service of criminal elements.

Her statement follows the arrest of two police officers in connection with the alleged kidnapping and suspected murder of 32-year-old  Sacheal Kungebeharry.

Kungebeharry was abducted by three suspects near Endeavour Road Extension, Chaguanas on September 25th 2024.

According to reports, of two of the persons wore Police tactical uniforms, with Kungebeharry taken away in a marked police vehicle.

The TTPS confirmed that a ransom demand was received by relatives, however Kungebeharry’s body was found on October 3rd in Longdenville.

It was positively identified using fingerprints.

Three men, two police officers and a civilian, have since been arrested.

In a statement, the Top Cop says, “We regret the alleged involvement of law enforcement officers, sworn to promote law and order, in the commission of this heinous act. We continue to be challenged with the presence of errant officers amongst the ranks of the TTPS. And while we are all deeply concerned with these incidents, I ask that we allow the investigations to proceed without interference and avoid any premature conclusions.”

She insists that this case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent, and assures that officers who betray the trust of citizens and are unfaithful to their oath of office, will be removed from office and face the full brunt of the law.
