A man was reportedly shot and killed in Sea Lots, as police were searching for a suspect in the shooting of PC Shakala Charles.
Around 9pm on Monday, PC Charles was driving a marked police vehicle with other officers along Piccadilly Street, Port of Spain, when loud explosions were heard at St Paul Street.
Upon approaching the site, PC Charles felt a burning sensation in his chest and realized that he had been shot.
The TTPS says he is currently in a serious but stable condition.
Early this morning, police reportedly received information that a suspect in the incident was seen in Sea Lots.
At a home along Production Avenue, a man was shot after he allegedly tried to chop one of the officers with a cutlass.
The suspect later died at hospital and is yet to be identified.
The officer he attacked was wearing a helmet and did not sustain serious injuries.
In a statement regarding the shooting of PC Charles, Police Commissioner Erla Christopher said the TTPS remains
“undaunted and resolute” in its mission to uphold the rule of law, adding that “any act of violence committed against any officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is absolutely unacceptable and will not be taken lightly.”
